We live in a part of Chester County, South Carolina, called Armenia. It is a rural setting and we live on a small place of about twenty-five acres. We have horses, cows, dogs, cats and other miscellaneous wildlife around here, too. Will get more pictures up as I am able.

Why Booshink?

You are probably wondering, "Why Booshink and what does it mean?" I'm not sure. Booshink, after all, is just a word (although, granted, kind of a stupid one) but it sort of describes a state-of-mind that began years ago in another time and place.

Well, for what it's worth, Booshink is my creation: well, mine and Hankie Williams, a friend of mine from far back. When I say that Booshink is my (our) creation I mean the "concept," not the web site, because, of course, in the mid-fifties we knew nothing about computers, and there was no concept at all, really, except pure lunacy and foolishness and trying to be cute, which was generally OK back then except for those occasions when we really began to aggravate people. Then we weren't very cute. We were just - aggravating. Hey, we were only about 10 years old and it became fun to try to always astound people, even if by so doing we kind of got on their nerves. Suffice it to say that for some reason the word stuck (there was even a Booshink chant created in later years - without my knowledge or consent, I might add) and now there's a web site named for it (Booshink, not the chant). Maybe, as time goes on, you may come to your own understanding of what Booshink is. Mainly I hope to provide content that will please and interest (and maybe only occasionally aggravate) my readers. (There was once a Booshink picture of me and Hankie but I have not been able to find it and it may be lost forever.)

The Computer Part

Ever since 1992, when I first got access to the World Wide Web, I have wanted to design, write, and publish my own web site. Well, 13 years later I have finally achieved that goal. The reason it has taken me so long is not that it is a difficult thing to do but rather that I really haven't had the time to do it what with trying to make a living and all. Finally, about two years ago, I realized that I was not getting any younger and that it was time to get to work. I designed, wrote, and published this site myself using HTML (which I have been learning as I go along) and Window's Notepad (at first). I later downloaded Macromedia's Homesite 5.5 ($99) and Nvu (which is FREE) and began using them. They make coding and keeping up with files a lot easier and I think they are both very good programs. The FTP program I use to publish to the Web is WS_FTP by Ipswitch. If you are interested in learning HTML, a very good book is Learn HTML 4 in a Weekend by Steve Callihan. Web design is fun and easy and I would like to get some classes going on it. If you would be interested in participating in a class, send me an email (just click on my name at the bottom of most pages) and let me know.
